Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why shouldn't I just use Google?
A. Google searches the entire web for information relating to your search query. On the other hand, StatDogg is a vertical search engine that uses Google's own technology to index websites that are relevant only to the world of sports statistics. We also have a ranking system to ensure that sites with the best sports statistics information appear at the top of the results page, even though they may have a low Google PageRank.

Q. What are refinement labels and how do I use them?
A. For example, when you do a player search for "Carmelo Anthony," you will be presented with a list of links that includes his professional, college, and olympic statistics. However, the page with his college stats may be overwhelmed by the other results. By clicking on the "College Stats" refinement, you will see only links for his college stats, and the same goes for the other labels. Of course these labels only work if the underlying information is available.

Q. Why can't I find college stats for player XYZ?
A. StatDogg is not a database of sports statistics, rather we index other websites that have this information. Although there are many such sites with extensive databases, there is still a lot of information that does not exist freely on the web. For example, it may be hard to find college football statistics for someone that played more than a few years ago - Peyton Manning, for example.

Q. I have suggestions/comments/feedback/criticism/ideas for this site?
A. Please send your comments to feedback@statdogg.com.
